The School is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Emily E. LB. Twarog as the Inaugural Ronald and Lilia Peters LER Faculty Scholar. Professor Twarog is a Labor Education Program (LEP) professor and the Director of the Regina V. Polk Women’s Labor Leadership Conference.

Trained as a historian, Twarog’s research takes an intersectional approach in examining the history of women, work, and organizations as well as current strategies for building women’s leadership within the labor movement. She is currently working on a book that explores the history of sexual harassment resistance among US service sector workers in the 20th century.

Professor Emeritus Ronald Peters joined the University of Illinois’ Institute of Labor and Industrial Relations in 1976 and led the Labor Education Program for over 30 years.

Under Peters’ leadership, the program excelled while educating thousands of students and union members on grievance procedures, contract negotiations and bargaining, labor history, and many other topics facing labor leaders.

Professor Twarog will be honored at an investiture ceremony at the School, 504 E. Armory Avenue, at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2024, with a reception to follow. All School faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the larger university community are invited to attend. To RSVP, please contact Jerrica Hood, or contact Nell Madigan with further questions about the event.
