Hi! My name is Neenah Williams, and I graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in May 2024 with a degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology and a minor in Leadership Studies. As a Latina and Champaign-Urbana native, I am proud to be an ambassador of this program. LER has deepened my passion for helping others uncover their potential, empowering them to make the most of their experiences here. Hey there, my name is Vu Nguyen, I graduated earlier in May 2024 here at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor’s in Organizational Psychology and a minor in Leadership Studies. A study that combined understanding people in the work environment. Finishing my undergraduate career, I still felt like something was missing regarding what I wanted to learn especially on the business front of things. I was introduced to the MHRIR program through a couple of current students/alumni and I saw what the program has done for them and how they’ve grown. I was nervous at first but after attending an informational event and scheduling a shadow session to learn more about the program, I knew it was a place that I would love to be a part of. Looking back I’m glad I took a chance. Now, I can proudly say that I’ve learned so much within my first semester, met so many wonderful connections with students and staff, and overall got real-world insight into the world of Human Resources. If you are curious about anything both for LER or overall about getting into HR don’t hesitate to contact my email at vun2@illinois.edu.

Hi! My name is Zainab Yusuff-Akinbo. I graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in May 2023 with a degree in Speech and Hearing Science. I loved studying Speech and Hearing Science because it focused on human connection and helping people communicate. But over time, I realized I wanted to make a difference in those same areas on a larger scale—within organizations and teams. That’s what led me to pursue my Master’s in Human Resources and Industrial Relations at LER. It’s been an incredible journey so far, giving me the chance to bring that passion for communication and empathy into the workplace, meet inspiring people, and grow in ways I didn’t expect. I’d love to chat with anyone interested in making a career change or diving into HR. Feel free to reach out at zyusuf2@illinois.edu—I’d be happy to connect!
