When were you both at the School?
Mike attended LER from 2004 – 2006, and Kari attended 2007 – 2008
How did you meet and start dating?
We initially met working at the Illini Union, and were friends for a few years. Mike graduated from LER and moved out west for his first role. Kari reached out when considering LER for graduate school and they haven’t stopped talking since.
If you were dating while in Champaign-Urbana, what was your favorite date night location?
We weren’t necessarily dating at the time but we spent a great deal of time at Brothers (RIP) and often found ourselves at Merry Ann’s to cap off the evening.
When/where were you married?
We were married in 2012 in Tucson, Arizona
What are you up to today?
We are currently back in the Chicago suburbs to be closer to family. Mike works in Geneva, IL for Amsted Automotive as an HR Director, and Kari works for Home Chef, a meal kit company downtown Chicago as a Sr Director of HR.
When was the last time you visited campus together?
Mike’s dad lives in Champaign, so we frequently make it back for football games in the fall and general visits.
Are there any other favorite memories or fun stories you’d like to share from your time together on campus?
Kari initially was interested in a different LER student that worked with us at the Illini Union. The good news is that everything turned out well for all involved.
