Progress

  • LER officials break ground on the new building
  • Construction begins on the new LER building

We broke ground in May, and the end is in sight for the building addition, which will be completed in Spring 2019.


The GENEROSITY of our alumni and corporate partners has helped us secure nearly $1.5M IN PLEDGES for named spaces throughout the building, including Soderstrom Plaza, one new classroom, several common spaces, 12 offices and two dozen donor wall gifts.

The paver campaign resulted in 145 NEW ENGRAVED PAVERS, raising nearly $80,000. These will be placed in the new plaza along with 112 PAVERS from the original entry, which will be re-engraved to preserve their legacy.

Michael LeRoy ‘s article “Targeting White Supremacy in the Workplace”, has been selected for republication in the 34th edition of the Civil Rights Litigation Annual Handbook, a prestigious volume for practicing lawyers, judges, and academics.

Emily E. LB. Twarog was interviewed in the Atlantic about her book Politics of the Pantry: Housewives, Food, and Consumer Protest in Twentieth-Century America.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

YoungAh Park has official joined the Editorial Review Boards at Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, and International Journal of Stress Management. She is also currently a board member at Human Relations.

In a recent survey, graduates indicated that the online MHRIR helped them move forward in their careers and that they would recommend the program to a friend or colleague.

This fall, LER welcomed 21 NEW MHRIR STUDENTS in the fourth cohort of the program.

The first graduates of the program RECEIVED THEIR DEGREES in August 2017.

74% OF GRADUATES WERE PROMOTED internally or advanced their career with new companies during the program or within six months of graduation.

Graduates earned an average $20,000 MORE ANNUALLY than with a bachelor's degree alone.

ISABELLA JACKSON and MAGGIE JAKIMIEC, both Bronze Tablet honors recipients, graduated one semester early with their bachelor’s degrees in 2018, and came to LER after networking with family and alumni.

LER alumni leadership at ALCON, UNITED AIRLINES AND ZILLOW GROUP has provided new opportunities for graduates and interns.


ABBVIE AND ALCON joined our ranks of corporate scholarship partners.

PHILLIP AND GERRY MENZEL have seen their gift in honor of their family matriarch, PATRICIA MENZEL, come to fruition. The inaugural Patricia Menzel Memorial Scholar was named this fall, and was awarded to psychology undergraduate EMILY STANCIU. In addition to the scholarship, the Menzels have also made a generous donation to the building, naming the entry stairwell.

Program

The Labor Education Program provides professional training and development for union leaders and workers in Illinois.

THE PROJECT FOR MIDDLE CLASS RENEWAL’S MISSION is to investigate the working conditions of workers in today’s economy and elevate public discourse on issues affecting workers with research, analysis and education in order to DEVELOP AND PROPOSE PUBLIC POLICIES that will reduce poverty, provide forms of representation to all workers, prevent discrimination against gender, race, and LGBT, create more stable forms of employment and promote middle-class paying jobs.


Each year the Project will be dedicated to a number of CRITICAL RESEARCH STUDIES AND EDUCATION FORUMS on contemporary public policies and practices impacting labor and workplace issues.
