Hampton Inn Fremont, CA
46500 Landing Pkwy
Fremont, CA 94538
Be here by noon on Monday the 8th. We will either get you checked in, or get your bags held so that we can get back into the rooms that evening. Nell, Katherine, Jason and Cory are staying there the night before, but will be visiting a company Monday morning from about 9-12. With luck, you can check in at noon and drop your bags. Otherwise we’ll see if the hotel can stash them. The hotel has our rooming list.
Our Maxim tour is at 1:30, and the trip should take 20 minutes, so we will leave via Uber as a group at 12:45.
Your travel to the hotel is your own responsibility, as is your transportation following the event.
Breakfast is available at the hotel both mornings at no charge. Remember that we will be leaving the hotel for breakfast at HPE early Tuesday, so if you want to grab food before you leave, plan early.
Your room will be shared with another student, assigned by LER. We will pay for the room, but for NO INCIDENTAL CHARGES. If those are charged to the room, we will have you pay for those charges.
If you cancel prior to the event, you will owe us a $100 fee for the hotel room.
We’re in California, and all of these professional locations are more casual than typically seen in most visits. You are fine to wear jeans if they are NICE. Jeans or slacks are fine. Don’t bring skirts, and don’t bring shoes that are not closed – not tennis/gym shoes, but something else. Short sleeved shirts are fine, but you can’t wear something sleeveless on the Tesla tour (sorry, Jason.)
You may not be able to participate in all tours if you don’t have this attire.
They are scheduled for rain during our visit – please bring an appropriate jacket and small umbrella.
Please recall – NO PHOTOGRAPHS INSIDE THE VISIT FACILITIES, specifically Tesla. Keep your phones off and away unless you are invited to take pictures. For those helping us with the UI Snap takeover, we will find out what we can say about Tesla prior to that visit, so please don’t mention it until we know more.
See below for the target times and addresses, along with my alumni tour contact for each location. If you are not with us for the departure, we’ll leave you a message, but you will be responsible for getting to the location on your own. LER will ONLY pay for the group transportation – if you miss the group, you will pay your own travel.
Maxim Integrated – 1:30 p.m., Monday January 8
160 Rio Robles
San Jose, CA 95134
Following this event, we will just have Uber take us to downtown San Jose. It will be too early for happy hour, but we’re not battling the traffic twice, so we’ll go down and find a coffee shop with free wifi or go wander downtown. That trip will take a minimum of a half hour, but maybe more given late-afternoon traffic.
Alumni Happy Hour – SP2 Communal Bar, 5:30 p.m., Monday January 8
72 Almaden Avenue
San Jose, CA 95110
There is not a formal ending time for this event. If you want to leave early or stay longer you are welcome to do so – there won’t be a formal transport back to the hotel but some of you can catch a ride with one of us if you leave at the same time. Remember that we have an early meeting on Tuesday.
Breakfast with Alan May, Executive Vice President, HR – Hewlett Packard Enterprises Headquarters, 7:30 a.m. Tuesday January 9
3000 Hanover Street
Palo Alto, CA
We will be gathering in the lobby at 6:15 to depart at 6:30. I don’t know how bad traffic will be, so we need to hedge a little bit. If you do not roll with the group, you can’t travel and meet us late – I don’t want to bother Mr. May with stragglers coming through security. Again – he is their chief HR guy, so you want to meet him if you can.
If you miss this due to your own lateness, meet us at Facebook – see below.
Facebook – 10 a.m., Tuesday January 9
1 Facebook Way, Building 20
Menlo Park, CA 94025
We should be there between 10 and 10:30 to check in. We will get to walk around, tour, and have lunch. I anticipate there will be time to kill between HPE and Facebook, so we will Uber to the Starbucks across from Facebook headquarters. Their campus is huge, so there will be a decent stroll from Starbucks to Building 20.
We will get a tour of the Classic Campus, an Oculus VR demo, and lunch with their VP of HR for Technology.
I hope to leave for Tesla at 1 pm.
Tesla – 1:30 pm, Tuesday January 9
Fremont Assembly Facility
45500 Fremont Blvd, Fremont, CA 94538
John Cukierski/Nuray Molla/Amy Klein

Again – if you miss our transportation, you will be responsible for your own travel. We will be returning to the hotel following Tesla – it may even be a walk across the highway from the plant – more informality to come.
Once back at the hotel – the LER portion of your trip is done, and you will be responsible for your transportation to your flight.
