The Hazardous Materials Training Program provides some of the most comprehensive hazardous materials training in the Midwest.

During the past four decades, the program has trained thousands of individuals in all types of public, private, and government employers on topics like hazard recognition and control, emergency procedures, work practices and respiratory protection. Its expert instructors and comprehensive curriculum have earned a reputation for high-quality training.

As a member of the NIEHS Midwest Consortium for Hazardous Waste Worker Training, the program provides extensive hands-on training, including the use of respiratory protection, equipment practice and work task performance. Several of these courses are offered in cooperation and partnership with the National School for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the US Department of Health and Human Services.

The program is one of 16 organizations in the United States funded by NIEHS to develop and host training programs for workers covered by OSHA’S Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard-29CFR 1910. 120 and DOT’s Shipper/Transporter Standards-49CFR 172.700 and 177.800.

The consortium combines the technical resources of universities and health and safety organizations throughout the Midwest.
