School of Labor and Employment Relations

In January, we took a group of students to Houston for our annual TraveLER trip! Over the course of several days, the group visited LyondellBasell, PepsiCo, Oceaneering Space Systems/NASA, and ExxonMobil, getting a behind-the-scenes look at different industries and HR career paths in manufacturing, aerospace, and energy.

Trip highlights included touring a PepsiCo facility, seeing how thousands of products move to distribution, and learning about related HR roles. At NASA’s Neutral Buoyancy Lab, students saw where astronauts train underwater for space missions. A career panel at ExxonMobil’s Spring campus provided students with valuable advice on building a career in HR, the importance of networking, and navigating leadership development programs.

We capped off the trip with the Houston Illini Club at a happy hour and an Illini game watch party as we cheered on Illinois to a big win over the Hoosiers! Events like this are a perfect reminder of the strength of the LER community. We’re so grateful to all of our alumni and corporate partners who made this incredible experience possible.
