Chen’s current research focuses on supervisor-subordinate interpersonal relationships. This line of research is dominated by Western oriented LMX theories. Chen’s study enriches the understanding of supervisor-subordinate relationships by demonstrating cross cultural differences and similarities in supervisor-subordinate relations. In addition, Chen has ongoing research interests in employment relations with a focus on international human resource management and trickle-down leadership.
