School of Labor and Employment Relations

Starting in Fall 2026, our program is STEM-designated. This change provides additional opportunities and flexibility for international students. As one of the few labor and employment relations programs to hold this designation, we are proud to equip our students with a forward-thinking skill set that emphasizes the growing significance of analytics and strategic decision-making in the workplace.

What are the benefits?

Additional time for professional development

The STEM designation allows eligible international students to stay in the U.S. longer by extending their Optional Practical Training (OPT) period. This extension provides students with additional time to gain hands-on experience, develop professional skills, and apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings.

Greater opportunity to explore career paths

The extended work authorization period opens exciting opportunities for students to pursue internships, rotational programs, and research in human resources and labor relations, empowering them to discover and refine their career aspirations and passions.

Recognition of analytical and data-driven skills

The STEM designation recognizes the growing significance of analytics, research, and strategic decision-making in labor and employment relations. It emphasizes the valuable technical and analytical skills that students acquire throughout the program.

Support for long-term career growth

By integrating business acumen, people strategies, and analytical skills, students develop adaptable skill sets that are relevant across various industries and global labor markets.
