Be ready for the hurricane season.” I’ve heard this phrase at least three times a week since I moved to Houston. When I checked the weather last weekend, I saw that Hurricane Beryl was passing directly through our area. I rushed to a nearby grocery store to stock up on food and water. Soon after, my manager from BP checked on how I was doing and how I was preparing for the storm. He offered guidance and help to make sure I was safe.

Unfortunately, my apartment lost power, but I was relieved to see how quickly bp reacted. Their Humanitarian Assistance Team (HAT), an internal emergency assistance system set up by our people for our people, provided support and offered relocation to a hotel for interns and employees. These volunteers act as an internal call center, supporting those who have been affected. After the storm passed, I spent a few hours in the office to recharge and cool down. Luckily, my apartment had electricity by the end of the night.

I’m grateful to have people who genuinely care for me and for the constant support provided by bp.
