Illinois is widely known by employers and students as one of the top three programs in the world for human resources and industrial relations.
In 2016-2017, LER students came from 83 undergraduate institutions (40 domestic, 43 international), 55 majors, 16 states, and seven countries. The class was 70% female, 24% minority (15% African American, Latino/a, and Native American; 9% Asian American), and 37.8% International. Thirty-nine percent of the students had a year or more of work experience and the average age at entrance was 24.

For full-time entry-level hires, the average private sector salary was $78,136. Signing bonuses averaged $7,451. Interns averaged $5,397 per month.
